Ferrari discloses data breach hackers demand ransom

Luxury car manufacturer Ferrari has disclosed a data breach after receiving a ransom demand from cybercriminals. The attackers claimed to have stolen files, including personal information, from the company’s servers. In a statement, Ferrari said it had launched an investigation and was working with law enforcement agencies to identify the culprits.

The company has not disclosed how much the ransom demand was or whether it paid it. It also hasn’t revealed the extent of the data breach, but it did confirm that no sensitive data, such as financial information or employee records, was stolen.

Ferrari also did not disclose when it believes the data breach occurred. It could be related to a ransomware attack back in October 2022 when cybercriminal group “RansomEXX” claimed it had stolen and leaked 7GB of data from Ferrari. Ferrari denied the breach at the time.

Ferrari stated that the breach did not impact the operational functions of the company, and found no evidence that financial information and details on owned or ordered cars have been compromised.

Ferrari stated that it had taken steps to improve its security systems and prevent similar attacks from happening in the future. It has also urged its customers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The Ferrari data breach is just the latest in a string of cyberattacks targeting high-profile companies. In recent months, cybercriminals have targeted everything from hospitals and universities to government agencies and major corporations.

These attacks highlight the importance of cybersecurity and the need for businesses to invest in robust security measures. Cybersecurity experts recommend that companies take a multi-layered approach to security, including using strong passwords, implementing two-factor authentication, and regularly backing up data.

Overall, the Ferrari data breach serves as a reminder that no company is immune to cybercrime. Whether you’re a multinational corporation or a small business, it’s important to take cybersecurity seriously and implement measures to protect your data from cybercriminals.
