Google offers 7 free Generative AI training courses

Google is offering seven free Generative AI (or “GenAI”) training courses for novices and advanced cloud practitioners alike according to a new Google Cloud Blog post. Google initially offered four free courses, but due to demand, has increased the free course portfolio to seven. Generative AI has become all the rage since OpenAI’s ChatGPT blew the world’s minds in November 2022.

Free Google Generative AI Training Courses

Google has made the seven free Generative AI training courses available on the Google Cloud Skills Boost website, which requires registration but is free to use.

Each course is available as a separate “Learning path activity” but part of the “Generative AI” Learning Path. Courses range from introductory to intermediate in difficulty, and each course takes approximately a day to complete.

The seven free Generative AI courses available are:

  1. Introduction to Generative AI
  2. Introduction to Large Language Models (LLMs)
  3. Attention Mechanism
  4. Transformer Models and BERT Model
  5. Introduction to Image Generation
  6. Creation Image Captioning Models
  7. Encoder-Decoder Architecture

While the courses can be completed in any order, it is recommended to complete each in sequential order as each course builds upon previous course concepts.

Participants will also learn the concepts of machine learning, deep learning, and how it relates to Generative AI concepts and techniques.

Generative AI relies upon large models, including large language models (LLMs) that can classify and generate text, answer questions and summarize documents.

Additional Google AI and ML Training available

Additional training courses are available once individuals are ready to progress into more advanced areas of AI and ML, of course. Concepts such as “MLOps”, using TensorFlow, and building and deploying machine learning solutions on Vertex AI are available on the Cloud Skills Boost website. Google Cloud Skills credits are required for these advanced courses, so check out the membership subscription page for a plan that fits your budget. If you want to avoid purchasing a subscription, you can also buy the number of individual credits you need if that’s better suited for your training needs.

Google’s Vertex AI is Google Cloud’s machine learning platform for training and deploying ML models and AI applications. Generative AI is supported across a number of Vertex AI components, which enable businesses to quickly adopt Google AI models and generative AI capabilities into their internal workflows.

The AI race is fully underway across big tech globally. Companies such as Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Alibaba each are looking to insert their own proprietary AI and generative AI capabilities into their core applications and services to consumers and businesses alike.
