Podcast: LinkedIn cyber threats, $1B ransomware bounties paid, Twitter verification scams

The second episode of the Cybersecurity Careers Blog podcast is now live! In this second episode, our founder and host Rob Waters discusses three cyber headlines making waves this past week.

LinkedIn introducing new profile verification, and transparency on profile creation. The platform will also alert users in private chats if members attempt to “take the chat elsewhere” like other chat platforms WeChat or WhatsApp. This is all in an attempt to secure its platform from social engineering, phishing attempts, and foreign espionage.

US banks reported over $1 billion in ransomware bounties paid in 2021. The staggering number represents more than double what was paid in 2020. We’re likely to see an even higher number once 2022 closes out.

Twitter verification scams are confusing verified users amidst the chaos of Elon Musk buying Twitter. Phishing attempts are running rampant as emails and direct messages are being used to try and exploit users. There has been a lot of confusion and chaos at Twitter as everything from layoffs to paid verification is in play.
